The Cost of Designing a Website in Uganda (Updated 2025)

The Cost of Designing a Website in Uganda (Updated 2025)

The ultimate website design cost depends on the quantity of effort needed.

Two factors determine the amount of labor involved:

  1. Website's complexity
  2. Website's size

A professional 15-page informational website with standard customisation will be less expensive than a fully customized 50-page site with many design metrics in place.

In terms of real Uganda shillings invested, the cost of developing a website for a small business or group can range between 750,000 and 12,000,000 UGX.

That's a large pricing range. So, let's break it down so you can receive an accurate estimate of how much it will cost to design and construct your website.

Now that you have a general notion of how much things cost, let's take a deeper look at the particular aspects that influence the cost of creating a small company website:

Page volume. The number of pages you aim to include on your website, which corresponds to the goal of your website and the information you want to convey to your website users.

Site template or theme. Each website begins with a theme or template. Nobody builds a website from the ground up anymore. That's just too time-consuming and expensive. A template or theme can get you 50-60% of the way to the finish line, but there is still a lot of modification and coding required to have your site appearing and operating the way you want. The more customisation and coding necessary, the higher the price.

Images and graphics. Fancy photos and graphics may give your website a one-of-a-kind appearance, but they come at a cost. Sophisticated visual effects sometimes need the use of specialized editing software, as well as the expertise of a bespoke graphic design professional.

Logo. Although not needed, a bespoke logo is a lovely touch for every website. A customized logo increases the level of trust and reliability. In 2025, you may expect to pay between 100,000 and 3,000,000 UGX for a professional-looking logo.

Programming. Sometimes you may discover a WordPress plugin that has the precise functionality you need right out of the box. Sometimes getting your site to accomplish what you want needs a lot of trial and error. In an ideal world, everything would simply plug-and-play and operate flawlessly the first time—but that is rarely the case. A good amount of fiddling and testing is normally necessary to ensure that everything works properly.

Number of design modifications. Most website projects begin with a concept design (similar to a rough draft), followed by one or two rounds of design modifications to ensure that everything is exactly perfect. Some website designers provide up to 3-5 rounds of design modifications. Technically, a website designer may give as many rounds of design updates as they like. But keep in mind that each design iteration increases the ultimate cost of the project.

Copywriting is a form of content production. A great website is built on solid, insightful, and convincing content. If you're launching a new site but don't have any content yet, it must be created. If your website's content is poor, old, or obsolete, it may require refinement, enhancement, or perhaps a complete rebuild. Over the years, I've realized that content production is the most difficult aspect of building a website. Our clients struggle with this since it is time consuming and complicated. That's why, a few years ago, we expanded our website design and development services to include expert copywriting. Yes, you want your website to seem current and trendy, but it is the content that drives results.

PRO TIP: Exercise caution when pricing items on a budget. Unusually low costs frequently result in poor workmanship, a negative experience, or nickel and diming you for everything. As they say, "you get what you pay for."
